You are out of wrapping paper. Or, if you’re like me, you just refuse to buy it because it takes a chunk out of your gift budget and usually ends up wadded up in the trash can only moments after being torn ruthlessly from your carefully wrapped gift. I sometimes wonder why we bother wrapping the gift at all.
Ok, so I admit it’s pretty fun to unwrap a gift. There is the whole element of mystery and surprise, even if only for a few moments. So here you are, ready to walk out the door to that Christmas gathering, you’ve spent days agonizing over the perfect gift but you have nothing to wrap it in.
Zoom in on the stack of magazines. The one over by the door that you keep meaning to recycle, or donate to the laundromat. I love wrapping gifts in magazine pages. You can either pick an entire article the recipient would be interested in (assuming he can refrain from ripping the paper to shreds when he unwraps it) or a funny advertisement page. My favorite are the recipe pages. Most of the holiday recipes feature colorful photos, so your gift will still look festive. I pick recipes that the recipient might actually make, and then I secretly hope they’ll share.
